Default HBO's The Pacific Updates

Don't know how many of you are keeping tabs on HBO's The Pacific miniseries, but I thought I'd post some of the last few updates. This page has the most current trailers and a featurette:

http://www.pacificfans.com/trailer-videos

And some recently released pics from the series:

http://www.hbo.com/events/pacific/slideshow.html

It'll be airing March 2010. Can't wait!

I know, I was just pointing it out to people who hadn't watched the trailers.

Well, there is the internet.. And no, I'm totally not hinting anything. Allthough, it would be a decent thing for me to buy the fracking DVD or Blueray box when it comes.

Yeah, I know, but in a almost-ex-communist-almost-shithole-like in Finland, we won't get high quality programs, AND we are still forced to pay for whichever crap they feel like broadcasting over the TV channels.

But yeah, [i]buy the blurays.

Saw the premier of Episode 1 tonight. It was alright. It felt pretty choppy as it kept jumping all over the place. The homefront scenes were awkward as you really didn't get to know the characters in their pre-marine days, however they did serve to show how some of the characters were linked. I would have almost preferred to cut those scenes and started the episode on Guadalcanal as it would have given more time to set up the events. I'm sure they could have still found a way to link the characters in-theater. The battle scenes were good and chaotic. Overall I give this episode 6.5/10, but I still enjoyed it and it was worth an hour of my life.

Well, I can say that it was "okay"'ish in short, since I don't really feel like giving a essay right now.

First episode was decent. Hope it doesn't get as emo as Band of Brothers.

I liked it, but I felt really sorry for the Japanese soldier that the marines kept shooting until the one guy had enough of a heart to end it for him...

Haha! I actually have a pretty high opinion of Finland (would love to visit sometime) and its people. Too bad your television choices are apparently limited though... I'm just too cheap to buy HBO.

EDIT: I originally (accidentally) edited your post rather than quoting from it, but the content wasn't changed. Apologies!

I was expecting it to have almost an all star cast like BOB had and feel to it. However, I'm feeling kind of meh right now about it. I'm just not feeling it. After watching it I felt like saying " is that all?"

That's why I'm not really a fan of sequels. Instead of sticking with what works, the directors and screen writers always feel like they have to reinvent the wheel, which usually results in ZZZZzzzzz film.

Dude, it's the Pacific front. It's going to be far more 'emo', as you put it, for good reason and, hopefully, to good effect.

Ah its cool man, this country isn't all that bad as long as you don't know much about it. But when you start digging in deeper and see how the lol-goverment works then its quite not-so-nice.

Nature is quite nice, people are mostly nice, expect for politicians.

Back to the topic though;

Somehow I have a feeling I won't like some of the characters.

The emo was what made Band of Brothers good.

Anyway, I liked the machinegunner character. Robert Leckie, was it?

Emo was in "blah, I cut myself" or emo being an abbriviation for emotional. I hope it does show the emotions of the characters because that the hell is the point of watching a movie if you cant and don't feel for them (Comedies or an exception). The emotions made BoB great hopefully it will make The Pacific great too. I unfortunately do not have HBO so I am going to need to find a streaming of it on the interent.

And, how is BoB cutting myself emo?

Back to the real subject.

Finland has great power metal. Sonata Arctica is coming to Philadelphia April 2nd and I am going!!!

What I meant by emo was, although BoB was a brilliant mini-series. The undertone of self-pity kind of put me off. I'm already getting the feeling that the series is going to lack cohesion and while it will try and show what the characters are feeling I reckon it won't show why. It'll be interesting to see how the characters develop.

I see what you are saying; No, I know what you are saying about the "emo" thing. I fee like most of the men are pusses so far. This is incorrect because most of those guys were already hardened to some degree by the Great Depression.

The problem is that the movie clearly has important people that helped this film materialize are known liberals (Spielberg and Hanks). If you know liberals, they like to take a film and inject their own politics into it. So is this film really about WW2 or a revisionist historical film? I mean I'm already feeling like we should feel sorry for the Japs and be mad at G.I.s during that one shooting scene. People watching that film will walk off thinking all the Americans are scum.
