Default About the work in progress...

Can you give us any information how's the project doing? What has already been done, or what's still missing? I know you can't tell us everything, but even a little information will do. Just interested. Some pictures or even w.i.p videos would be totally awesome! I'd just like some proof that the project is still alive. Keep up guys!

Project is still going, we'll make the updates when we are ready to show off the game.

Long time no post! I've been following this game for a while and nothing was happening, so i took some advice to take a break and check back later. Been a while! I see there's some reorginization going on, but where's all that great WIP model renders that used to be here? Boats, tanks and such?

Anywho, whats going on these days? Donations back up yet?

I'd get that impatience under control if I were you, I registered 1 year ago and there's actually less media available now than there was a year ago, hahaha

Yeah, I know, I've been lurking the forums for like two years. I just check them from time to time looking for any news, but now that it looks like we're finally going to see the first ingame pics in a relatively short period of time (at least for what we're used to here) have to say I'm looking forward to it even more than ever.

Behind the scenes we are working on the physics for the buildings (Destruction, Doors, Windows, Character Interactions etc.)

Hopefully we can show those naysayers that call themselves game developers at RnL and Ham and Jam. You know, the ones that say this game is a lie.

Yes. Unfortunately 1944s reputation outside this forum is not so hot. It seems patience is few and far between on the internet. Those of us who are patient will have the last laugh.

I don't doubt your methods, but I am just curious as to how you will alter the game engine to handle 250,000 units. I know that the guys up at Bohemia Interactive had some good tricks up there sleeves on their Arma 2 project that allowed us to have between 300 and 400 AI nation-wide on singleplayer being ran on the average quadcore processor with about 4 gigs of RAM and a decent video card. (I remember seeing this question before in an earlier post, but it wasn't clearly answered)

*note again: this is out of curiosity--I'm not trying to bash on the 1944 D-Day team whatsoever.

You have to remember most of those units will be AI. So it all depends on how much of a resource hog they will be. But yes, I'm kind of curious how this game can handle more AI than the top of the line game like Arma2. Then again I don't know much about the engine 1944 finally decided to go with.

Personally, I wish Ronan would just create a new WWIIONLINE so we can pay per month and keep the game in a constant state of development.

The concept is similar to Level of Detail (LOD). Up close you see the maximum level of detail (unit by unit basis), the further away you are the less detail you need to see so it scales back to squad / platoon / company etc.

While you are fighting in a hedge row the PC will only be managing those within your area on a unit by unit basis. Everything else has a LOD applied to it based on your location. Depending on your PC and it's performance will determine at what ranges the LOD's are applied. Our goal here is to make it as scalable and as transparent as possible. If the player is willing to sacrifice graphical quality then the AI will hopefully be able to do more processing.

The great thing about working with servers is that you can delegate the AI processing to one server while another would handle communication with the players. So provided the servers are distributed correctly the AI will be processed fairly accurately by a dedicated server.

welcome to the forum supai, or should I call you Iapus.....

(inside joke) >.>

and yea, I think the thing I can't wait for is the first big wip update, besides actually being able to play the game that is.

Thanks for the warm welcome!
I've been visiting regularly over the past few months and decided this would be the time to register. I can't wait either, an updated WIP thread would make my day too. We'll just have to wait I guess

Welcome to the forums supai and privateryan.

Oh and privateryan, I'm saying this in a purely friendly way, can you write your posts using capitals and correct grammar? I understand if your native language isn't English (neither is mine) but people will think highly of you if you put more effort to your posts. Thanks

Well, welcome to the forums Private, and for the future, I suggest that you write little bit more calmly or some people start picking on you. Like, people like me, expect, I'm kinda "asshole" of the forums.
